Late Wednesday afternoon, freshman post player Whitney Zachariason informed the Razorback coaching staff that she was leaving the program -- effective immediately.
Zachariason (6-1) hails from North Little Rock and led Central Arkansas Christian to Class AAA state titles both her sophomore and junior year. She received scholarship offers from 12 schools including Baylor, Ole Miss and Missouri State.
When she committed to UA in August of 2006, she said that Arkansas' progress with in-state recruiting was one of her reasons for committing. Her family also had ties to the area, as both her parents graduated from the University of Arkansas. When asked what other reasons made her choose UA, she said "I think Arkansas has great fans. I love the coaching staff and the other players."
"We are disappointed that Whitney decided to leave our program. The timing of her decision is unfortunate for both her and the team. Whitney is a great kid and we wish her nothing but the best in her search for another program that best suits her needs," said Lady Razorback head coach Tom Collen.
Zachariason participated in two of Arkansas’ three preseason games, averaging 5 ppg and 3.5 rpg.
On Sunday, November 11, the Lady Razorbacks host Lipscomb at 2 p.m. in it's regular season opener.
