Georgia on my Nerve...

uga uga UGLY win

PREFACE:  For those of you who don't know me...and there are plenty...you need to know that when it comes to the SEC, I am a UGA fan first (14 years and counting).  And as such, anything that may seem harsh in my ruminations probably is just that...but it's from a place of LOVE...and frustration at times.  But ain't that the way it always seems to be when you want your team to do better!  Having said that...here's anOtter perspective of UGA's Round 1 play.

As expected Georgia moved past their first round game defeating the Belmont Bruins by a score of 53-36.  What wasn't expected was the way Georgia played their first round game. Personally, I thought after their p***-poor performance against Vandy in the SEC tournament they'd get their collective hind quarters together offensively. Sure, they won today, but it was uga-uga-uuuuuuuggggggly!!!

Out of the gate, Georgia's defensive man-to-man pressure forced Belmont out of any comfort zone they may have had - a very good sign indeed.  Unfortunately, Georgia's offense play wasn't as stellar.  Although they led at the half (30-18) they allowed Belmont the upper hand at the beginning of the second half thereby cutting the UGA lead down to only FIVE.  From the floor they shot a pitiful 33.3% (19-57...yes I said 57) and that just won't cut it!  In treys they were 3-16 -- that's 18.8% for your stat geeks. Oy vey!  Of course it didn't help that Tasha Humphrey was 3-10 in field goals and had FOUR FOULS (anOtter major pet peeve...the F word).  Her hind quarters spent 19 minutes warming the bench.  When it was all said and done, Belmont out-rebounded Georgia 46-39 and snatched TWENTY offensive boards. "The problem was we didn't clean up after ourselves," Landers said. "We played reasonably good defense, but allowed them to get to the offensive boards far, far, far too many times."  I couldn't agree more Andy.  I've screeched GET YOUR BOARDS or REBOUND, REBOUND, REBOUND a multitude of times and yet they do not listen...lol...okay enough ranting for now.

On the positive side, Ms. Ashley Houts snagged her third steal of the game and tied for No. 2 (with Lou Sims)  on the Lady Dogs Freshmen Steal Leaders List (84).  She also scored 10 points with 6 assists.  Christy Marshall scored 11, the most by any UGA player.

The fact is UGA is more than capable of playing better basketball.  We've seen it first hand many times this year we just need them to believe and EXECUTE it.

UP NEXT:  Iowa State Cyclones (they've earned that name!) and all I've got to say at this point is...

SOMEONE BETTER LET THE DAWGS OUT if they want to see Round 3!
