LeAnne Harrington (Bio)

We couldn't be happier to have LeAnne writing for us at SECWB!

Posted: March 15th, 2007 @ 12:58pm

Featured columnist on SECWB.com, LeAnne Harrington, is a federal worker, aspiring writer and self-professed sports nut from Nashville, TN. Having played various sports most of her life, she is a vocal supporter of women’s athletics as a whole and women’s college basketball in particular. Having been born and raised in the South, she has gotten to see some of the best in women’s basketball down through the years. "A friend was selling t-shirts to support his daughter’s AAU team, and as soon as I saw the slogan, I had to have one. It said, '49 states play basketball. We LIVE it in Tennessee.' That about sums up the way we feel about the women’s game here."

Surrounded by some of the top girls' high school teams in the nation, most notably Shelbyville, along with SEC powerhouses UT and Vanderbilt, and up-and-comers MTSU, UT-Chattanooga and Belmont, LeAnne has been able to enjoy some of the best the game has to offer. She has been a die-hard Vanderbilt fan since the mid-80s. "Back in those days, the women’s games were often scheduled as double-headers with the men's games, and the tickets were "two-fers" -- your ticket to the men’s game got you in free to the women’s game preceding it. Even so, there would only be 50 people in the stands. My oh my, have times changed." They certainly have. The SEC leads the nation in attendance, with many big games now selling out Vanderbilt's Memorial Gym and UT’s Thompson-Bowling Arena, as well as other arenas around the SEC.  LeAnne says, "I may be somewhat prejudiced, but I will always think the SEC is the best conference in the nation when it comes to the women’s game. That's why I consider it a privilege to be able to spread the word even further about SEC women's basketball."

In addition to writing, LeAnne enjoys music, movies, traveling, and is rarely found without a book and a cell phone in her hand. She also enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She can be reached viat our contact form.
