Gamecocks Struggle in Loss to Boston, 67-68

The South Carolina Gamecocks women's basketball team had a less-than-impressive debut in the Hawk Classic, shooting poorly and lacking intensity in a 67-68 loss to Boston University.
The Gamecocks jumped out to an early lead at 11-4, but the Terriers quickly closed the gap to make the game 11-11 at the 10-minute mark, and the Gamecocks never regained the lead. South Carolina did make a few runs at the Terriers, especially late in the second half, but were unable to sustain the effort needed to take the lead away.
Junior guard Valerie Nainima led all scorers with 29 points, but shot only 11-31 for the day (including only 5 of 17 from 3-point range.) LaKeisha Sutton and Ieasia Walker joined her in double figures, with 15 and 10 points, respectively. Freshman center Kelsey Bone could only manage 5 points, but led both teams with 15 rebounds.
Boston had 4 players in double figures: Caitlynn Moran with 21 points, Alex Young with 14, Chantell Alford with 13 and Aly Hinton with 10. Maggie McKemie had 10 rebounds to lead the team and Young chipped in another 9.
The Gamecocks had far too many turnovers (22) and shot just over 50% from the free throw line, negating efforts to climb back into the game.
The Gamecocks play the Brown Bears in the consolation game on Tuesday.
