Gamecocks Avenge Loss to Wake Forest, 62-52

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons came to town Thursday night, hoping to replicate the 17-point victory they earned over the South Carolina team last season. However, times have changed and the Gamecocks were able to avenge the loss, sending Wake Forest home with a 52-62 loss that wasn't really as close as the score might indicate.
The Deacons lost their top 2 scorers from last season's team, but that did not deter them from jacking up a 3-point shot at any and every opportunity. In fact, more than half of the shots they took for the game came from beyond the 3-point stripe. Only 1 player in the game didn't attempt at least one 3-pointer. Happily, they shot less than 22% from that range and supplied lots of rebounding opportunities for the Gamecocks, who won the rebounding battle (though just barely) 40-37.
South Carolina's sophomore guard Lakeisha Sutton led all scorers with 18 points, while junior guard Valerie Nainima added 13 points and freshman center Kelsey Bone racked up a double-double, scoring 11 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Secily Ray led the Deacons with 16 points and 9 rebounds, while teammates Camille Collier had 12 points and Brittany Waters added 8 rebounds.
The Gamecocks will take on one of the better teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference on Sunday, when they meet the University of North Carolina Tarheels in Myrtle Beach at the Carolina's Challenge.
