The Auburn Tigers simply had too much for the Lehigh Mountain Hawks to handle in today’s first-round NCAA tournament matchup. Especially too much DeWanna Bonner. Bonner led her team with 26 points and 7 rebounds, but had plenty of help from her supporting cast, in routing the Mountain Hawks of Lehigh by a score of 85-49.
Point guard Whitney Boddie added 9 assists and 3 blocked shots, Trevesha Jackson led the team with 8 rebounds and Allie Smalley hit 2 of 5 3-point shots and had 4 assists. When the Tigers fire on all cylinders, they can stay in the game with anyone.
Lehigh was held to just 19 second-half points in their second trip to the NCAA tournament in the last 10 years. Erica Prosser had 14 points and 3 assists to lead her team, while teammate Haly Crites added 6 rebounds.
Auburn has now earned the right to face the 7th seeded Rutgers Scarlet Knights on their home court in the second round of the tournament on Monday.
