Adjustments Continue at South Carolina

Posted: May 17th, 2008 @ 12:04am

Jordan Jones, the Gamecocks leading scorer as a freshman last season, has asked for and received her release from the school. No word, thus far, on where she plans to transfer. In 2007-08, Jones ranked ninth in the SEC with 13.1 points per game. She ranked fourth in 3-point shooting and was the highest ranked freshman player in that category. She shot 39.9 percent from 3-point range, making a South Carolina freshman record 97 3-pointers. Jones set a school record with nine 3-pointers against North Carolina A & T in the first round of the WNIT.

With the departure of head coach Susan Walvius at the end of the 2007-2008 season, there was much speculation about whether the former Top 50 player would remain at the school. Although she seemed quite enthusiastic, initially, at the hiring of Dawn Staley as the new head basketball coach, her release request comes just shy of one week after the official announcement of the hire. The move leaves Staley with three open scholarships for the upcoming season.
