And Then There Were Three (We Think)

WIS-TV News, a Columbia, South Carolina-based station, reported last night that University of North Carolina head women’s basketball coach Sylvia Hatchell has withdrawn her name from consideration for the same position at the University of South Carolina. She will renegotiate her contract with UNC at Chapel Hill.
This leaves us–we think– with at least 3 other candidates, although even the rumors about these other three are nowhere near consistent. It is believed that Dawn Staley, currently the head coach at Temple University, is interested in the job and may even be considered the front runner. A potential problem is that her salary is thought to be around $400,000.00 at Temple–about double what former USC head coach Susan Walvius was making at the end of her 11-year reign.
It is also widely believed that University of Tennessee associate head coach Holly Warlick is interested in the job and that Chattanooga’s head coach Wes Moore may also be under consideration. Since the University will not comment on an ongoing search, it is very difficult to know for sure how many of these coaches are interested or whether or not any of them have visited the campus for an interview.
So, we continue to wait…
