ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Top recruit Angel Robinson won't play this season for the Georgia women's basketball team because of an injury to her left knee.
Coach Andy Landers said Robinson, the 2005 Miss Georgia Basketball, tore an anterior cruciate ligament during the Lady Bulldogs' exhibition game against Augusta State on Tuesday.
The loss of Robinson is another blow to a team already down three frontcourt players.
"It certainly raises the bar as far as the challenge before us," Landers said.
Forward Rebecca Rowsey tore the ACL in her right knee in September. Sixth-year senior Ebony Felder was forced to forgo her final season of eligibility due to chronic pain from knee injuries. Sophomore Reicina Russell left the team for personal reasons.
The 6-foot-5 Robinson averaged 23.8 points, 15.2 rebounds and 5.1 blocked shots while leading Marietta High School to a 28-2 finish last season. She tore the ACL in her right knee in 2003.
"I hurt for Angel because she had worked extremely hard to position herself as a viable contributor to our basketball team,'' Landers said. ``Just in the last week, you could see her game elevating on a daily basis."
