Georgia vs. George Mason Preview

The Georgia Lady Bulldogs take on the Patriots of George Mason as game two of the official season continues today at UGA.

Georgia was successful in it's regular season opener as they beat, ney stomped the Richmond Spiders (81-53) on Friday evening.  Even with that win, the Lady Dawgs must improve their free-throw shooting (a dismal 42.3% in the Richmond game) if they really want to make it further in post season.  But that's only one piece of the puzzle.  They also need to focus on eliminating turnovers.  In pre-season/exhibition play, Georgia made a total of 46 TO's (23 each) in just two games. They "improved" slightly in the Richmond game with 21 total TO's.

Sunday's game marks the season opener for George Mason. Coach Debbie Taneyhill begins her 11th season at GMU with a record of 135-142(.487). GMU returned four starters this year, including senior Lateisha Wade, the leading scorer at 13 ppg. GMU ended last season with a 8-20 record.  In pre-season/exhibition, GMU won it's only game in a narrow decision over Wilimington University (Division II school) 64-62 last Monday.

GEORGIA PROBABLE STARTERS:

Expect to see Tasha Humphrey, Megan Darrah, Ashley Houts (reigning Freshman of the year), Rebeccas Rowsey and freshman shooting star Angela Puleo (Pah-layo) to take the floor for the dawgs.

GEORGE MASON PROBABLE STARTERS:

Coach Taneyhill expects to start freshmen guards Moni Akintunde and Brittany Poindexter as well as returning players, sophomore guard Rashauna Hobbs, senior forward Casey Quigley and junior forward Jessica Smith.  Lateisha Wade will be ready to come off the bench to make things happen for GMU.

WHAT'S IN THE PAST:

The Lady Bulldogs beat George Mason 76-51 as both schools played for the first time last year. The Lady Dawgss are 20-13 all-time against teams from the CAA, including a 20-7 mark under Andy Landers.
