LSU brings only two freshmen to the floor this year, both in the guard position.
Katherine Graham, 5'11", was named Alabama 5A Player of the Year and Miss Basketball last year. Her average of 15.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game as a senior helped her team to a forth straight state 5A Championship where she earned MVP honors. She was named twice to the 5A All-State team and selected three times to the All-Alabama State Tournament team.
Latear Eason, 5'8", averaged 19.3 points, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game and shot 54.0% from the floor in her junior year at John Hope Academy in Chicago, Illinois. She earned all-city honors from the Chicago Sun-Times and was first-team Class 2A All-State that year. Though Eason sat out the final season of her high school career with a knee injury, she was still considered a top prospect for the 2007 incoming class.
Both players are excited to start the season and do anything they can to help their team win games.
Coach Van Chancellor had this to say about his rookies, "I see Latear running our team, giving us some added punch offensively, I see Graham being a tremendous athlete and a student of the game. How far they go will depend how well they can adjust mentally to playing on this level."
They would do well to soak up all they can from their senior laden environment in a hurry; they will be half of the returning team next year.
