Goestenkors chooses Texas!

According to a "person with knowledge" (via the AP wire), it looks likes Gail Goestenkors will be leaving Duke to coach the Texas women's basketball team. This is not confirmed but more than likely valid and comes as no surprise to those who keep in the loop as Gail was "numeral uno" on the Texas wish list.
Goestenkors has spent the last fifteen seasons at Duke and leaves with a career record of 396-99. She's won seven ACC coach of the year awards. Last week Gail visited ("interviewed") Texas and had told the press her decision would be at least a few days away. Upon her return, the Duke players along with a great many students, teachers and parents held a rally hoping to persuade her to stay.
Personally, I'm sad to see her go (if it's true - I'm really not in denial) but am very pleased she's staying in college ball instead of going "pro". I'll miss Jody, she was and is a class act. I'm sure we'll see her around the Texas games. Gail Goestenkors is an asset to any program and in my opinion will continue the 'class act' that Jody forged. The University of Texas was smart and is lucky to have Gail on board. I'm sure the kids at Duke are heartbroken and I sympathize with them.
The coaching vacancies just keep opening, filling and opening again...but that's what makes it more exciting for next year.
****UPDATE*****CONFIRMED - GAIL WILL GO TO TEXAS

This just in....Gail Goestenkors resigned Tuesday to take over the womens basketball program at Texas.
"In the end, it came down to her seeking a new challenge at this stage in her career and her life," Duke athletic director Joe Alleva said in a statement.
"While we are disappointed that she has chosen to leave, we have to look forward now and search for the best women’s basketball coach for Duke University. We are confident that we will attract a coach with excellent leadership skills who fits best into our mission as an athletic department," Alleva said. "That process has already started. It will continue until we find the coach who wants to lead this program to even greater heights in the future."
