PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Temple coach Dawn Staley agreed to a six-year contract extension Thursday, a deal that will keep the former Olympian with the Owls through the 2012-13 season.
Staley has a 151-67 record in seven seasons and has led the Owls to five NCAA tournaments. Temple went 25-8 this season and was eliminated in the second round of the tournament.
A two-time Atlantic 10 coach of the year, Staley led the Owls to four conference championships in seven seasons. Her finest season came in 2004-05, when she led Temple to a 28-4 overall mark and a perfect 16-0 record in A-10 play.
Staley earned consecutive national player of the year awards at the University of Virginia and was a five-time WNBA All-Star. The Philadelphia native also was a three-time Olympic gold medalist with Team USA, and carried the American flag at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Games in Athens.
